Amid the uncertainty of post-Brexit London, an immigrant drone seeks refuge inside the ruins of the 2012 Olympic Park. The drone drifts between an archipelago of floating islands between Stratford and Hackney Wick in East London. Along the way, it captures a panoramic portrait of the area: ruined warehouses, abandoned stadiums, artist enclaves, buried shopping centres, and Anish Kapoor's monumental Orbit sculpture.
The work is part of Bonus Levels, Lawrence Lek's ongoing series of virtual worlds that combine speculative architecture, simulation, and music. Based in a studio at the White Building since 2012, the video reflects his observations of how the area has transformed from post-industrial hinterland to neoliberal playground.
As new regeneration strategies and immigration laws spread over the UK, the player is invited to witness the conflict between the city's past and its future.
