UP Projects are working with YARA + DAVINA to run a creative engagement programme to inform ideas for a series of public artworks in Blackheath, London

Commissioned by Elysian Residences, the programme will consist of six free workshops led by local Blackheath resident, Davina Drummond of YARA + DAVINA and held in local venues and community spaces in Blackheath village. The workshops will use Semaphore, the art of communicating with flags, to help explore the theme of change and how we deal with change - not only in our neighbourhoods and built environments, but also in our lives more generally. The groups will develop mottos together which they feel help enable the process of change. It is envisaged that these mottos will feed into the design of a series of public artwork proposals.

The workshops form part of a wider programme of community engagement being led by Elysian Residences who are working with the owners of the Clarendon Hotel in Blackheath, to come forward with proposals for the redevelopment/refurbishment of the hotel. They have selected Stirling Prize winning architectural practice Stanton Williams to develop this vision for the future of the site whilst maintaining and preserving the elegant Georgian terrace and architecture, overlooking the Heath.
