The Black Curriculum

The Black Curriculum is a social enterprise founded by Lavinya Stennett in 2019 shortly after her studies at SOAS to address the lack of Black British history in the national Curriculum.

Joined by Bethany Thompson and Lisa Kennedy, the team and services grew rapidly and was heightened by the global 2020 wave of racial reckoning.

Our programmes are for all young people aged 3-25 and aims to equip young people with a sense of identity, and the tools to navigate a diverse landscape. We aim to embed Black history in the English national curriculum to include a wide range of contextual examples of Black British histories.
