Richard Reynolds has been guerrilla gardening for nearly twenty years, both in London and now in Devon. He is passionate about the transformation of public space into beautiful thriving places, initiated and adopted by local people. Prominent but marginal land he transformed continues to thrive today despite not having received permission at the start. He founded GuerrillaGardening.org in 2004 to inspire others to get guerrilla gardening and wrote "On Guerrilla Gardening - a handbook for gardening without boundaries" fifteen years ago which continues to have a big influence on gardeners, activists and those in charge of the public realm. Some local authorities are now more encouraging of informal interventions in public space, valuing the enthusiasm and energy that top-down management cannot sustain. He has also created gardens with permission in meanwhile spaces in London. He has been invited to work with local residents transforming public space in several parts of the UK as well as in California, Botswana, Georgia and New Zealand.
