Artist and Art Educator

Maria Nymfiadi was born in Athens, Greece. She studied Sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts and recently completed an MA in Art Education, Culture, and Practice at the Institute of Education at UCL.

In addition, she has received a master's in Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins, University of London, and studied Photography at Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht, Holland. She has 20 years of experience as an artist, working on collaborative and participatory projects, textile art, photography, site-specific installations, and text-based art.

Her work has been included in many group exhibitions and projects in the U.K. and Greece. Currently, she is experimenting with textile art, exploring various processes to interweave personal and family stories. Maria has lived in Enfield with her family for five years.

She organises after-school clubs and is developing engaging art projects and experiences. Last spring, she collaborated with the dancer and choreographer Evangelia Kolyra and hosted a two-hour workshop at Palmers Green titled Move to Knit that engaged participants, children and adults to dance, learn finger knitting, express through embodied experiences and combine their threads through movements at Devonshire Square. Lately, the artist has been running lectures/workshops with the art historian Gelly Gryntaki at museums, focusing on women artists.

The art educational experience utilises embodied experiences and memories through live engagement with the artworks of inspiring women artists
