Producer (Learning and Participation)

Jack Newbury is Producer (Learning and Participation) at UP Projects and has several years of experience producing learning, engagement and participatory activity. Jack leads the delivery for Constellations, UP Projects' artist development programmes and artist-led activities specifically for young people. Similarly, Jack has produced, designed and delivered numerous learning activities, resources and workshops for children and schools. Key projects for schools include The National Windrush Monument Learning Resource and Gut Feelings Meri Jaan: Activity Pack.

Jack has led on the delivery of large public space projects including the London Gallery Performance Programme (2024) with Adelaide Cioni and Nil Yalter as well as a year-long programme of public art activities as part of the Edgware Centenary Programme (2023-2024). Furthermore, Jack has also assisted with the delivery of UP Projects’ flagship commissions including the Newham Trackside Wall (2021) by Dame Sonia Boyce and Gut Feelings Meri Jaan (2022) by Turner Prize winner, Jasleen Kaur.

With a background in design, Jack has extensive knowledge in colour and design production (both digital and print) and oversees UP Projects' Resource Library including designing in-house publications. Jack is also the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion lead, and his ongoing research involves improving inclusion & accessibility principles in the culture sector. Jack produces UP Projects' live and online event resources and accessible artwork guides, and oversees all accessible principles of our digital work and website.

Outside of his role at UP Projects, Jack has produced and developed self-initiated critical projects tackling themes relating to education, inclusivity and equality. He has exhibited his work and has been asked to speak at numerous conferences and major design events across Europe about his work with inclusive design. He taught as a Visiting Practitioner at Central Saint Martins (2020-2021), coordinated the initiation of the Future Materials Bank between CSM and the Jack Van Eyck Academie (2019-2020), and was Project Manager for Future Factories, a performance-based exhibition, collaborated between CSM, Design and Living systems Lab and the Design Museum, London (2018).

In 2019, Jack received a Distinction in MA Material Futures from Central Saint Martins where he developed research projects for clients such as Volkswagen, Stella McCartney and The Ellen MacArthur Foundation. In 2024, Jack was selected to take part in A New Direction's Space for Change programme developing a critical learning resource for Primary Schools.
