‘Exposed’ is a groundbreaking documentary combining and encompassing stories from 19 Black, brown and migrant nurses and midwives speaking about their powerful experiences of racism before, during and after the pandemic.
The film was made as part of ‘Nursing Narratives: Racism and the Pandemic’. A research project and study by Sheffield Hallam University and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council under the UKRI Covid-19 Urgent Response Call.
“The stories of BME nursing staff and the pandemic are entwined with complex histories of racism which can only be fully understood through amplifying the experiences and voices of those who have been marginalised.” - Professor Anandi Ramamurthy, Sheffield Hallam
The film furthers conversations around not only stories of racial discrimination and the impact of long-term discrimination on individual and institutional approaches to a crisis but shows the pandemic as a portal through which we can re-shape our direction as a society and centers the insights of those on the frontline as a crucial asset in creating significant change.
