Code Switch Podcast

The Code Switch podcast is run by a multiracial, multigenerational group of journalists who explore how race affects every part of society — from politics and pop culture to history, food and everything in between.

Created by NPR and hosted by Gene Demby and B.A Parker, Code Switch focuses on the topic of race as the hosts tackle these conversations with empathy and humour.

National Public Radio (NPR) is an American privately and publicly funded nonprofit media organization that strives to create a more informed public — one challenged and invigorated by a deeper understanding and appreciation of events, ideas, and cultures.

Demby wrote in Code Switch’s first post that the name was a reference to the way people of color “subtly, reflexively change the way we express ourselves all the time.”

Episodes range from topics such as ‘What does it mean to “inhert whiteness”?’ to

Wherefore art thou, N-word?’ to ‘Can therapy solve racism?’. There is a topic that covers every angle of how to build a more antiracist society.

They even launched a fellowship programme as a way to help develop experienced journalists interested in telling thoughtful, nuanced stories about race and identity from people and places we might not otherwise hear.
