Charity So White are a Global Majority-led campaign group seeking to tackle institutional racism in the charity sector.
Their call to action is simple: have candid and critical conversations about racism, rooted in honesty, humility and hope; publicly acknowledge that institutional racism exists in their organisations; prioritise anti-racist work, embedding it into whatever institutional mechanisms are at their disposal and dismantling the ones that are preventing change.
“We want to see a shift in fundamental structures across the charity sector, where our sector, leaders and decision-makers reflect the communities that we work with.
Unless we take serious and urgent action to tackle racism, social justice will not and cannot prevail. This will take investment and commitment and means leaders prioritising taking action and accountability, in order to bring about systemic change.” - Charity So White
On their website you can find many resources including a ‘Defining Racism’ page and a ‘Black History Month’ section which includes a space for black joy stories, highlights a list of black heroes who have inspired them and a collection of visionaries who are reimagining our future.
Charity So White speak on panels and at events, run workshops, support BAME networks within organisations, engage with senior management, and assess the impact of policy – especially that of funders.
We encourage you to reach out and subscribe to their newsletter to stay up-to-date on their work and become more aware of steps you can take to become an anti-racist charity.
