Founder & CEO, Julie's Bicycle

Alison Tickell established Julie’s Bicycle in 2007 as a non-profit dedicated to mobilising action on the climate crisis, initially in the UK music industry and now across arts and culture internationally. Trained as a cellist, Alison’s approach is rooted in her work with jazz improviser and teacher John Stevens, whose understanding of music and community activism created the foundational values that inspired Julie’s Bicycle. Alison has been a committed and passionate advocate for culture and climate action for many years including for national governments, funding bodies, companies and artists from many parts of the world. Other current roles include an advisor to the Climate Heritage Network, COP28 Global Call for Culture and the UK Creative Industries Council. Alison joined the European Climate Leader’s Retreat convened by Christiana Figueres with the International Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism founded by Thich Nhat Hahn. She has two wonderful children, both of whom are teachers, and she is an Ashoka Fellow.
