What is the value of attention? explores how in a society where distraction is the norm, public art can offer a platform to channel our attention. Drawing on artist John Latham’s notion of ‘delta’ (Δ), a unit of attention, this line of enquiry explores attention as a resource that has the potential to support artists and creative practitioners advance social and political change. What is the value of attention? And how can art add meaning?

What is the value of attention? was moderated by Neelika Jayawardane, Associate Professor of English at the State University of New York-Oswego, and a Research Associate at the Visual Identities in Art and Design (VIAD), University of Johannesburg. Speakers included Artist, Ahmet Öğüt and curator, Magdalena Malm.
