The case study for Underline: Clay Station was developed in response to Kiera Blakey’s contribution to Are curators still relevant? as part of the Assembly online event series. Blakey, who currently works as Head of Exhibitions at Nottingham Contemporary, was formerly curator of the artwork, collaboratively developed by design studio Assemble and artist Matthew Raw and commissioned by Art on The Underground. The case study, written by Freelance Curator Chloe Hodge, looks at the framework for Underline: Clay Station, a series of art and music commissions by Art on The Underground for the Victoria line that involved the creation of more than a thousand unique hand-made tiles, building on London Underground’s rich heritage of ceramics.
