Mystery River, a short film created by Michael Smith, explores ‘the half-forgotten river at the birth and the heart of England's great metropolis’.
The film’s narrative follows the River Lea’s journey, from its source near Luton, through sites of interest such as Waltham Abbey, Hackney Wick, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, to its mouth at the River Thames near Canary Wharf. In his characteristic languid style, Smith narrates the sites that have inspired his writings and meanderings through the Olympic fringes. Mystery River is a film by writer and filmmaker Michael Smith co-commissioned by UP Projects and The Departure Lounge for The Floating Cinema 2013 and made with support from the University of Bedfordshire.
The Floating Cinema: Extra-Ordinary was supported by The Legacy List and their corporate partner Bloomberg as part of Bloomberg East in partnership with Canal & River Trust.
