Be ANTIRACIST Podcast with Ibram X. Kendi

Following on from his groundbreaking “How to Be an Anti-racist” book, Dr. Kendi has just finished a book that every parent, teacher and carer needs in order to raise the next generation of anti-racist thinkers. “How to Raise an Anti-racist.”

Kendi asks the questions that he found himself avoiding when his first child was born:

  • How do we talk to our children about racism?
  • How do we teach children to be antiracist?
  • How are kids at different ages experiencing race?
  • How are racist structures impacting children?
  • How can we inspire our children to avoid our mistakes, to be better, to make the world better?

In anticipation, we’ve also been dipping into Ibran X. Kendi’s fantastic Be Antiracist podcast series. Through conversations with different guests, each one brings new insights and perspectives.

“Ableism and Racism: Roots of the Same Tree” presents Dr. Kendi in conversation with Rebecca Cokley, one of America’s leading voices on disability rights, and explores the intersection of racism and ableism and what we can all do to advocate for a better future for people with disabilities and particularly black people with disabilities.

Rebecca Cokley says we need to “ start acknowledging ways that you have behaved with an ableist mindset….and acknowledge the learning as a first step. It is just like retraining your brain in acknowledging racial bias and racist policies”.

There has been a significant rise of people with disabilities after Covid with at least one third of people with Covid developing longhaul symptoms.
