Rebecca Beinart is an artist, curator and facilitator based in Nottingham. She’s worked as the Collaborative Programme Lead (previously Engagement Curator) at Primary for 12 years. Her role is focussed on projects that centre socially engaged practice and co-production, creating opportunities for different communities and artists to work together. For over a decade this has seen the development of long-term programme structures that have created strong relationships with Primary’s local neighbourhood and supported practices that centre social justice: Intersections (2014-16); Making Place (2017-2021); Build Create Play (2022-24) and Nourishment: a cyclical programme (since 2021). These programmes create generative spaces where local residents, community groups and collaborators help to shape what happens next.
Alongside her role at Primary, Rebecca works on freelance art projects and commissions. Her research and artworks use socially-engaged approaches to explore collective histories and futures, environmental justice, and the politics and ecology of public space. Collaborations have included work with artists, writers, scientists, herbalists, landworkers, activists and communities. She completed an MA in Arts & Ecology in 2008 and went on to work on major publicly commissioned projects with a focus on ecology, place and community - including with Arts&Heritage, Ignite!, Spike Island, UP Projects, Radar, Artsadmin and The National Trust. Her research and projects have been supported by Arts Council England and Wellcome Trust.
