Turning Tree is a distinctive sculpture for Ladywell Fields in Lewisham, launched in May 2015.
To create this poetic sculpture, Henry Krokatsis took a section of a fallen Black Poplar tree found in the park and immortalised it in cast polished aluminium, to create a subtle monument to nature. Hovering horizontally just above the water surface of the River Ravensbourne, the sculpture rotates with the changes of current. The work playfully invited visitors to paddle in the river and take a seat or spin on the Turning Tree.
The development of Turning Tree challenged Krokatsis' practice, providing an invaluable space to test out new methodologies for kinetic sculpture.
Secret Garden Project Lewisham was developed in partnership with Lewisham Council and supported by Arts Council England.
