UP Projects are working with artist Ruth Ewan to create a series of new public artworks on the site of the historic Ford Plant at Dagenham Green commissioned by Peabody and Hill Residential Limited.
Ruth’s work will form the beginning of a heritage trail that will traverse the Dagenham Green site celebrating the area’s rich heritage – from ancient Thames-side activity to its legacy as a hub of modern manufacturing and social workers history. The heritage trail will be artist-led and act as a participatory mechanism for intergenerational learning.
Ruth’s first artwork will honour the women behind the 1968 and 1984 Ford sewing machinists’ strikes – landmark moments in the fight for equal pay and fair working conditions. Ruth will work closely with local communities and in particularly women to develop this new work. Details on how to get involved will be announced soon.
We are working closely with local partners and collaborators through an ongoing steering panel that includes representation from the Women's Museum, Valence House Museum, Peabody, Hill Residential Limited, Hill Partnerships Limited, PRP and London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.
Dagenham Green is a strategic masterplan being developed on the site of the 45-acre former Ford Stamping and Tooling Operations works. Located in East London, the Dagenham Green site lies immediately northeast of Dagenham Dock station (c2c Fenchurch Street-Rainham line) with the A13 fly-over to the south and New Road to the north.
UP Projects have also been commissioned to work closely with Peabody and Hill Residential Limited to develop a public art strategy for future phases of the development.
